Randy Lanier for Sports Illustrated

Published in Sports Illustrated this week is the amazing story of Randy Lanier, former race car driver who spent 27 years in prison for smuggling in tons of marijuana to the U.S. Shot this story down in Miami with SI writer Jon Wertheim. Story of a man given a second chance to do something he loves. He resorted to meditation in prison to help him cope so he graciously agreed to be photographed meditating on the track at Homestead raceway.

PGA star Dustin Johnson at home with Paulina Gretzky

We recently photographed Dustin Johnson, Paulina Gretzky and their son Tatum at Wayne Gretzky’s home in Los Angeles for Golf Magazine. I love photographing athletes at home with their families away from the court or course. Thanks to my crew Milena DeVincenzo, Sina Araghi, Donna Gast, Adrianna Voelker. Always a pleasure to work with Alan Shipnuck at Sports Illustrated as well. Picture editor Jesse Reiter.

Cover shoot for Ian Poulter’s Autobiography

PGA star and European Ryder Cup team member Ian Poulter has written an autobiography, available on Amazon HERE, and we got the call from his London based publisher to shoot the cover. Set up a studio at his house and he was intrigued with the 4×5 camera and the stash of Polaroid Type 55 film we brought, but the frame they ended up choosing was shot on the Canon 5D MKlll with a medium format 80mm Mamiya lens adapted for the Canon. He’s always fun to work with and he didn’t disappoint this time.

Serena Williams photographed for Sports Illustrated

As Serena Williams continues to play fabulous tennis thought I’d post a few pictures from our shoot with her in New York right before the Open started. After the shoot Serena produced her dog Chip from a purse, dressed him in a bow tie, and was all smiles while I held him and shot a few more pictures for her. Thanks to Picture Editor Miriam Marseu, Director of Photography Brad Smith, Taylor Ballantyne, and Milena DeVincenzo. Special thanks to Serena’s agent Jill Smoller at William Morris Endeavor for giving me some breathing room 🙂 The magazine ended up using them in color although I really love the black and white.

Photographing Michelle Wie for Sports Illustrated

Photographed LPGA star Michelle Wie for Sports Illustrated a few weeks back, impeccable timing as she won her first major, the US Women’s Open on Sunday.
Beautiful display in the magazine and wonderfully written by Alan Shipnuck. Thanks to Christine Sonnenberg, Milena Devincenzo, James Biscardi, Irene Ferdinand, Mike Rado, Christopher Crumb. Great editing by Miriam Marseu. We built a wall out of 100 of Michelle’s instagram photos to use as a backdrop.

Matt Fitzpatrick for Golf Magazine

Flew up to Atlanta to photograph Matt Fitzpatrick, U.S. Amateur Golf champion Matt Fitzpatrick for Golf Magazine. Storm clouds in the morning made for some nice mood. Got to play in the Masters at 19 years old!

Bubba Watson for Sports Illustrated

Great day with Masters champ Bubba Watson when he returned home to tiny Bagdad, FL to give back to his town. The day was filled with emotional moments as he stopped by all three of his schools to give a donation and talk with the kids. What a class guy and he’s got a hell of a pitching arm.
Thanks to Director of Photography Brad Smith and Picture Editor Miriam Marseu.

PGA star Jason Day for Sports Illustrated

Spent some time with PGA star Jason Day, his wife Ellie, and son Dash (love that name!) for Sports Illustrated. Written by Alan Shipnuck, read the story HERE. Wonderful family.

Kevin Spacey for Propellor Films and WBK Bank Poland

Had the honor of photographing two time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey in New York for WBK Bank Poland’s worldwide ad campaign. This is our third body of work for them, including actors John Cleese and Antonio Banderas. Kevin was a sweetheart to work with and one of my all time favorite actors. Shot at the beautiful Steiner Studios in Brooklyn.

Kevin and agency/clients look over the take.

Milena finds new friends in Times Square after we wrapped.

Most Beautiful Women in Golf

Great time photographing 4 of the Most Beautiful Women in Golf for Golf Magazine. Here is Beatriz Recari from the LPGA…enjoy!

Visit Orlando – Change Your World TV spot

Directed and produced this :30 broadcast spot for Visit Orlando with our friends at PUSH advertising agency. It is airing in the UK now. The Orlando Sentinel wrote a front page story about the production today. Found the London cab up in Charleston, SC and had it trucked down here. First we had to have the
alternator replaced (it wouldn’t start), then we replaced the passenger side window when someone smashed it out while we filmed in downtown Orlando making it double as downtown London. Loved our talent we found. Great crew overall. A few behind the scenes pix..

Boys and Girls Club fundraiser spot

Directed and produced this :30 broadcast spot to benefit The Boys and Girls Club of New Hampshire. Shot on location at The New Hampshire Motor Speedway for Laconia Harley-Davidson client.
DP John Atkinson, Editor Adam Showen.

Sports Illustrated Golf+ cover with Ian Poulter

Had a great shoot with the fashion forward PGA star Ian Poulter for the cover of Sports Illustrated Golf+. Sports Illustrated challenged me to come up with a cover concept for this one, and as I thought about Ian and his love of fashion it struck me that his golf game and his life is framed by the passion he has for clothes and design. Why not photograph him in an actual frame to represent this idea? The magazine and Ian loved it. We shopped for antique frames with a lot of character to play off his polished look. I brought in Yolonda Winters for hair and make-up and Christine Sonnenberg for wardrobe. Yolonda and Christine are part of our production team we usually use when shooting motion commercial work. My friend Gary ‘Razor’ Bogdon was assigned to shoot the documentary day in the life story on Ian as well as behind the scenes video. He also shot the beautiful opener for the story. Thanks to my great crew, Milena DeVincenzo, Ricky Fontenez, Miguel Valdes. Written by Alan Shipnuck, Picture Editor Miriam Marseu.

New Harley Davidson spots

Directed some new spots for long time client Orlando Harley Davidson. These were unscripted, from the heart, testimonials by team members who work there. John Atkinson, DP, edited by Adam Showen. They are airing in Florida now. We head up to New Hampshire in June to shoot some more.

Luke Donald for Golf Magazine

Shot a little fashion piece and directed a short video on Luke Donald for Golf Magazine this month. Jessica Marksbury came down from New York for the interview. Also a 30 second peek at behind the scenes (thanks Ryan Wendler and Adam Showen). Photographed in West Palm Beach, FL.

Bill Bond for Golf Digest, The man with the golf ball eye

This was one of those assignments that while I was shooting it, I still couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Feature story for Golf Digest on Bill Bond who lost his eye when he was attacked by inmates at a prison where he was a guard. He almost lost his life in the attack. During his rehab he discovered golf and fell in love with it. He loved it so much that he had a doctor make a prosthetic eye that looks like a golf ball. He also had an artist paint a scene of a man teeing off where the iris would go. Most unbelievable thing I’ve ever seen. Super nice guy with a super low handicap to boot. Read the story here.

Portraits of the Year, Golf Digest

Honored to be selected for the Golf Digest Portraits of the Year edition. Portrait of LPGA golfer Christina Kim. See ’em all here.

Limited Time Magic Video for Disney

Directed this ‘cool’ video for Disney recently. We filmed while artists from Philadelphia and Canada were commissioned by Disney to sculpt various Disney moments out of ice along with a 20 foot high replica of Cinderella’s castle. They took these sculptures to Times Square in NYC and let them melt as part of their Limited Time promotion for Disney Parks. We then re-created those moments with real people in the parks. Thanks to Greg Montz, David Guertin, and Paul Chase of Disney for giving me this great opportunity. Also great crew members in Orlando, Philadelphia, and New York.

Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott for Golf Magazine

Shot the cover for the December issue of Golf Magazine of golf phenom Roy McIlroy up in Atlanta, then was off to Miami to shoot Adam Scott for the same month. Roy and Adam were both great to work with, and I even got to play some guitar with Adam on his new Taylor acoustic.

Outdoor Boards for Nemours Children’s Hospital

John Cason at Fry l Hammond l Barr designed some striking outdoor billboards using my photography for the announcement of the opening of the new Nemours Children’s Hospital. They are currently up and down the I-4 corridor. I’ve been working with John and the team at FHB since 2005 on the branding for Nemours.
